plantitos and plantitas out there who are looking for an indoor plant, there’s one that I recommend. You don’t have to be a green thumb for this plant. It doesn’t matter too if you live in an apartment where’s very little space. This plant is the most tolerant of all decorative plants, able to adapt to almost all harsh growing conditions and can survive abuse and neglect.

I’m talking about the Snake plant or Sansevieria (Dracaena trifasciata). Interestingly, this plant is also called Mother-in-Law’s Tongue because of its long and pointed shape (no offense to mother-in-laws). The plant is also called Bowstring-hemp and Saint Georges Sword (again due to its shape).

The Sansevieria is an ideal plant for indoor spaces because it is a superb air purifier. Studies, including those performed by NASA, have consistently shown the plant to remove toxins such as formaldehyde, xylene, toluene, and nitrogen oxides. Yes plantitos and plantitas, it’s NASA, as in National Aeronautics Space Administration, who did the study. The space agency probably did this experiment to find out how to provide oxygen and clean the air in space stations.

Other than the Snake plant, the NASA study also cited other plants with great air purifying potentials. They are English Ivy, Peace Lily, Golden Pothos ( the aquatic plant which we bring to school back then), Janet Craig Plant ( similar to a Fortune Plant) and Warneckii (I have a plant like this).

Among the plants cited in the study, the Snake plant is the best choice because it is easy to grow and maintain. It does not need a lot of water too, so watering once a week will suffice. As for sunlight, these plants will appreciate a light area, but can survive in very low light conditions that’s why they are great indoor plants. Now I know why our neighboring office has Snake plants. I have several plants in my table, mostly fortune plants and cactus. It’s only recently that a friend gave me a Snake plant.

Most plants absorb Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and release Oxygen (O2) during the day. This process is called photosynthesis. The Snake plant is unique because it takes in CO2 and exhales O2 at night. This process is called the Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM) process of photosynthesis. It’s good to have a Snake plant in your in your bedroom. Studies show that higher oxygen levels promote deeper sleep.

How many Snake plants should you place indoors? Well, the NASA study recommends at least 15 to 18 medium-to-large size plants for a 1,800 square-foot (167 square meters) home. Around 6-8 plants are needed per person to survive if there is no air flow, like in outer space.

There are many varieties of Snake plants. The most common are the Sanseviera Laurentii, those with green leaves with bright yellow edges and Sanseveria Trifasciata which similar to Laurentii but without the yellow edges.

The NYT story this week said: ROME PopeFrancis expressed support for samesex civil unions in remarks revealed in a documentary film that premiered on Wednesday, a significant break from his predecessors that staked out new ground for the church in its recognition of gay people.

“The remarks, coming from the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, had the potential to shift debates about the legal status of same-sex couples in nations around the globe and unsettle bishops worried that the unions threaten what the church considers traditional marriage — between one man and one woman.”

But to go on with what I have already prepared previously for this section:

If there is a mystic whose prophecies I will share without a bit of hesitation, they are those of Luisa Picaretta ( (23 April 1865–4 March 1947) a contemporary of St. Padre Pio Padre (25 May 1887- 23

Sept 1968). Luisa was officially declared by the Vatican as Servant of God.

In 2016, the Holy See declared there was no impediment to the beatification and canonization of Luisa who wrote in 36 volumes in a book known as Book of Heaven the messages she has received mostly from Jesus Christ. There was a time when three books related to her was placed in the Vatican’s Index or list of forbidden books, but it should be clear that these books were not in her 36 volumes. Besides, in 1966, the Index was abolished by the Vatican.

Apart from her candidacy for certain sainthood, there is St. Padre Pio as testament to her saintliness, thus, credibili t y.

When the three books associated with Luisa was listed in the Index, Padre Pio wrote her, saying: “Dear Luisa, saints serve for the good of souls, but their suffering knows no bounds”.

At times burdened by the number of people who wanted to see him in his monastery in San Giovanni Rotondo, Padre Pio would tell them to go to Luisa instead. The good padre had also encouraged the opening of a spirituality center at San Giovanni Rotondo, inspired by Luisa who had by then passed on ahead of him.

But it is enough to touch his skin, to remove the things necessary to natural life, that it abases his haughtiness. He feels so humiliated that he makes himself a rag, and I do what I want with him. Especially if they do not have a perfidious and obstinate will, one chastisement is enough-to see himself at the brink of the grave-that he returns to Me into My arms.

August 15, 1925 :

… created things feel honored when they serve a creature who is animated by that same Will which forms their very life. On the other hand, my Will takes the attitude of sorrow in those same created things when It has to serve one who does not fulfill my Will.

This is why it happens that many times created things place themselves against man, they strike him, they chastise him— because they become superior to man, as they keep intact within themselves that Divine Will by which they were animated from the very beginning of their creation, while man has descended down below, for he does not keep the Will of his Creator within himself.

November 24, 1930:
