Importance of Education
Vina R. Reyes
Education, according to the dictionary, is the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university. It helps us know our surroundings better by explaining facts that are new to us. It helps us navigate freely in our lives. Many are in schools learning new stuff and some even graduated from it and now a professional in their finished courses. However, in the Philippines, one (1) out of ten (10) Filipinos aged 6 to 24 belong in the “out of school” youth. Out of school youth is the group in the youth which is not educated by teachers or is not enrolled into a school or system. It is currently of the major problems the government is solving.
Having education means we learn new information which we could use in our future. It will help us gain jobs which may give us high salaries to improve our lives. It fills up the missing information we don’t have as a child or even as adults. It also teaches us discipline which helps us maintain a violence-free and in peace life since having discipline avoids conflicts which could harm ourselves.
Many would say that education is not important since even without education, gamers earn money through what they call “E-sports” by playing mobile games such as Mobile Legends and League of Legends. However, the main goal of education is not for money but rather to educate the people properly and teach them values which they can use in their future lives.
One of the misconceptions is that education is not important and if they will work at an early age in a farm or other location, they would gain more money to support their families and that if they will enroll to a school they will gain expenses which will lower their current money. This is true in a way but if a child finishes his or her school then jobs with higher salaries than in a farm or a carrier will open up to that child and will gain more money, even more than the expenses done in the school.
Education has been prioritized mostly by the people but there is still a little percentage of the out of school youth and there is also a percentage of dropped out students. They should value their education to have a better future and a better life.
