21st CENTURY EDUCATION: GOOD OR BAD?

Rico M. Pablo

-

One of the quotations of Nelson Mandela he says that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. From this quotation we can say that education is really important to all of us. It can bring out the person’s creativity and productivity in them. Several years have passed, we can also say that education came up with a lot of process and changes because of technology. Since we are in the 21st century learners, our generation is way different from the past. Therefore, education today tries its best to provide the youth more effective way of learning which is related to their capability today. But how did we accept these changes as the 21st century learners? Did the education today reach their success in applying the new curriculum? Or we human beings just didn’t care and thought it was all the same?

Technology indeed had a great effect to the world. Because of its rapid growth and its success, youth nowadays are the one who are most influence with these changes. Since technology is used widely in the world, students can also apply technology in their studies. Most of us want to have something in an instant. So when they do research works, they just simply type and enter, an then boom! All of the answers they are finding for will pop un in second. But, how about our libraries? Are they being abandoned because of the technology? Because of the impact of technology, students get lazy upon visiting and utilizing the books in the library. For me, it is okay to use the internet when doing some paper works at school. But how sure are we that they are reliable ? technology, specifically the internet, is a place where everyone and anyone is allowed to enter. From the facts we can see on the internet, they can be changed and edited by someone, even you. So we should not just rely on the internet. Even though we are in this generation, we also have to go back and follow the simplicity of the past.

Today’s education has a positive and a negative impact. But despite those negative impacts, education is and will always be part of our lives. Our minds were set up in advance if we will compare to the past generation. So we have the lead in performing and possess a personality in a more effective and more advance way. A 21st century education implies a stronger and powerful capability of learning and performing 21st century skills. It can produce an individual who has a stronger character and great confidence.
