LEARNER’S PERSPECTIVE ON EDUCATION

Rico M. Pablo

-

If I were to interrogate a bunch of students the question,” Do you like going to school? ”I would presumably ponder that half or the whole rather (if normal teenagers were asked) would concur that they dislike going to school. If asked, “Why do you still go if you don’t want to?”. Their response would probably be “We need to, it’s good for us we, don’t have a choice, it’s for our future.”

It’s disconcerting that teenagers who chiefly need the knowledge from education hates the impression of education itself. Yet if you ask them the importance of studying, they can respond with precise answer.

School is a place of learning new things, having new companions and fathoming who you are. I don’t think it sounds a bad place. But for students, school is a place of grades, test scores and assignments. As the famous line says “Grades doesn’t measure intelligence.” So why do schools cultivate this kind of system? How can we assume a student to be exhilarated to go to a place where his ability to acquire knowledge is assessed? For them, school is like a jail.

However, we have to change their mindset about school. Parents and educators should work together with solidarity to guide the youth.

We all should embrace education. Education is not the key to success. Education is the door to success. The key is the hardwork and the willpower of an individual. The knowledge we acquired from education won’t last, someday it will fade to oblivion. We have it, but we don’t own it. But being hard working to acquire the knowledge will be innate till the end of time.
