CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and partners uphold the rights of children amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

As such, this year’s National Children’s Month celebration carries the theme “Sama-samang Itaguyod ang Karapatan ng mga Bata sa Panahon ng Pandemya”.

“Aside from being vulnerable to be affected by COVID-19, there are so may struggles faced by children. They cannot go out, they cannot enjoy with their friends,” DSWD Planning Officer Aple Shane Lomoljo said.

The pandemic also deprived the children of their education.

Lomoljo reported that compared to the previous years, there is a lower enrolment rate in daycare learning, elementary and secondary education because many parents do not want to risk their child’s health.

With this, DSWD is spearheading a Talentadong Kabataan Contest which includes jingle making and spoken poetry.

It is also organizing this month webinars focusing on topics such as mental health, and sexual abuse and exploitation on childr en .

The agency also opened a logo making contest for the Local Councils for the Protection of Children.

Members of the Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children and local government units likewise recited the Panatang Makabata to show their support to the celebration.
