Parent-Teacher
Norween T. Malonzo
Education has deeply affected by the impact of COVID-19. Many private schools had closed while many teaching and non-teaching personnel have been displaced from work. Another effect of the pandemic is the delays on the opening of classes as well the means of delivering the lessons. Various modalities have been proposed to be utilized; modular distance learning, online distance learning and blended instruction to name a few. But the biggest question is, who will be teaching today’s learners?
With the different modalities being implemented by all sectors of education, it has been a debate as to who will be the prime deliverer of the lessons. It is inevitable that it is really the teachers who are mandated to deliver their lessons. But with the current situation, parents will now play the biggest role in the continuance of learning. They may not be the main source of lessons and instructional materials, but their guidance and presence as their children will be attending online classes and answering modules will deeply help in the delivery of the lessons. Complaints are expected, but their understanding both on their children and the teachers will allow balance in making this school year a success. Nevertheless, teachers will still be available to answer queries and to design instructional materials to make the delivery easier and lighter not only to the learners but also on the part of the parents. Hence, everyone should take part in recognizing the biggest roles that parents may be portraying, in as far as education is concern, and that is becoming parent-teacher.
