Additional services are required to assist teachers of the language education in culturally disadvanta­ged areas. At best,these are teachers are exhausted from their efforts with the large classes of difficult pupils. They lack of the time and energy to assemble the types of illustrati­ve and supplement­ary materials so necessary for motivation and learning in the technology and livelihood education. The author purposes the establishm­ent of the school-wide materials center from which materials could be loaned to teachers as needed. This room could be a repository for pictures, projector films, filmstrips, reading books and inexpensiv­e materials,diagrams,magazines. These materials should be circulated by a materials center coordinato­r who does not need to be a profession­al. Teaching with only a textbook is drab from my observatio­n culturally deprived children respond in the types of materials noted above.

Teachers should have the assistance and leadership of an English Head Teachers. There should be one for every ten teachers. In the slums the school day should be lengthened with a definite time such as from 8:00 to 9:00am,set aside for planning. Every Thursday fir example could be a planning day for English.

The English subject have been short changed in regard to time. The program necessary to improve the teaching English in the Secondary must be lengthened in order to answer the need for K-12 curriculum. Such a program would go far in laying a foundation which would enable both elementary and secondary English teachers to function as they should.
