A Heart For Our Earth
Robert Orben once said “I’ll feel better about the future when we stop treating the earth as if it were rented.”
Our Earth is now a spoiled planet. Something must be done to save what is left to protect nature. Let us embrace each other and create activities to save our planet, out environment, our country.
With global rise of temperatures posing drastic changes in our climate, our country becomes more susceptible from its impact ranging from weather disturbances , flash floods, drought , changes in species migration and feeding patterns , increase in illnesses , and many more serious consequences.
To be sure , climate change and global warming are not just environmental issues because they have severe socio-economic implications.
Significant actions are being undertaken to arrest continuous decline of our environment. The government, including well – meaning individuals and private organizations are initiating concerted efforts to help in mitigating the deleterious effects to climate change and global warning. The key, however, is a dramatic and unified action to affect a solution to this worsening problem.
We salute the Department of Education (DepEd) towards this end, for embarking on massive, intensive and sustained tree – planting, tree – growing and tree – caring activities throughout the school year. The involvement of pupils, teachers, school heads and officials as part of their civic duties as citizen to help in the global challenge and in combating global warming is even commendable.
Trees serve as the lungs of our planet. Trees help reduce global warming by sequestering million tons of carbon per year. Trees provide cooling shade, attract birds and wildlife and purify our air, prevent soil erosion, clean our water and add grace and beauty to our schools and community.
Let us all plant trees and take good care of them. It’s time to nurture our nature. Let us join in this worthy endeavor. Together let us make a green country. Let us save our planet. Let us use our HEART for our EARTH.
