Working Together for Brighter Education
Jennifer P. Viray
Support mechanism between parents and teachers in the delivery of education plays significant role in boosting learner engagement and achievement especially in this so-called “new normal.” As parent or guardian acts as learning facilitator in the delivery of instruction, encouragement and support were given emphasis in facilitating effective learning performance and academic achievement. Teachers regularly monitor the learning progress of their students through the help of the parents or guardians through texts, calls, or the use of social media. Thus, parental engagement is a great leeway to achieve positive impact on the academic performance of their children.
As teachers provide clear and concise instructions during the orientation and distribution of self-learning modules, parents are equipped with possible opportunities on how to assist their children in their studies at home as reflected in the weekly home learning plan. In this case, parents have more chances in spending their quality time to their children while having their studies at home. Extending full support to their children in their studies would really increase their interest in learning. Moreover, parental engagement whether in school or at home builds strong relationship between the parents and their children, improves appropriate behavior of their children, increases academic performance, and creates a greater sense of responsibility as a parent to their children.
In this time of pandemic, working together is vital in molding the young minds of our children in achieving the kind of education they deserve. A strong collaboration and coordination between parents and school in extending hands in the educational journey of our children must be our topmost priority. Our role is not limited in providing education alone but to continue to inspire our children to strive better to achieve their dreams.
