In the advocacy of the continuity of learning during this pandemic, different learning modalities were introduced by the Department of Education. The Distance Learning modality employs learning in geographical distances. This modality has 3 forms: Modular Distance Learning, Online Learning, and Television- Radio Based Instructions. The other modalities are Blended Learning which is a combination of other forms of modalities, and lastly the Homeschool Modality where in the student is guided by a tutor or a parent to facilitate the learning of the child.
Among the above mentioned delivery of learning, the Modular Distance Learning is the widely used modality. This is in response to the call for education among parents and students who prefer the traditional way of learning.
Teachers and parents set partnerships in achieving the target goal. Communication is established to help tracking the academic progress of the students.
Parental involvement is the key in the success of the continuity plan. Parents doubled their parenting efforts by setting their children on track in learning each subject. Instructions are reiterated by the parents for checking and confirming their progress.
However, parents have to face challenges in their aspirations to continue education. Parents working from home have additional work of providing technical support or guidance in their children’s schoolwork. With the varying skills of parents, the struggle to become familiar with subjects their children are learning is another task that they must indulge with. Parents as well need to provide their children a productive learning environment to help them focus more on learning. They are also asked to handle the frustrations of unpredictable routines to control over the varied activities in each lesson in every subject. These are just some of the new experiences and adventures parents are facing today.
Parents’ venture in educating their children at home in the new normal exemplifies their support in the continuous learning of their children. This unfolded scenario defines the nurturing love of parents.
