Key Challenges Amidst the Pandemic
Jennifer P. Viray
Teaching in the new normal is quite different which in turn challenging for some teachers, since there is no face to face interaction between the teacher and students in school. It is possibly difficult to stay connected to your students due to some distractions like poor access to internet connection and unavailability of gadgets at home to be used for learning. It is somewhat challenging to monitor your students and keeping them focus on their studies simply because not all of them do have the available gadgets to stay connected with you while using the selflearning modules.
It has become a challenge today to focus more on student-centered approach to learning. Although monitoring of progress takes into account, the individual performance of the learners varies on how fast or slow they manage to finish the activities indicated in the module without sacrificing the skill or competency they need to master or learn. Despite your best efforts, you need to balance the different learning needs of your students and keep them engage while studying at home.
Those parents with low capacity to assist their children on their studies like working parents, less educated, and to those where no members of the family can assist the child in his studies are intervening factors which somewhat resulted to additional challenges in times of this pandemic on how to deliver education at home.
There are other issues that must be considered for the smooth implementation of the learning modality. Despite these issues, teachers continue to strive harder to serve their untiring commitment and passion to teach every learner entrusted to them with adequate and usual support from school administration and parents.
