The “new normal” has introduced modular distance learning to Philippine education.

Modular distance learning features printed or digital self-learning modules. Aside from the learning materials, also included in these modules were textbooks, activity sheets, study guides, and other study materials.

Aside from keeping both teachers and students safe from their comfort of their homes, modular distance learning has numerous advantages. Some of these advantages include self-directed study, flexibility, accessibility, and cost-efficient.

Modular distance learning promotes student-centered learning. With the use of modules, students are able to figure out the learning style that best works for them. It allows students to identify the things he or she is good at, and the areas he/she needs to work a little harder.

This new learning sytem also promotes flexibility since students manage their own schedule in finishing the tasks in their module.

Meanwhile, since lessons are conducted remotely, resources are available on a 24-hour basis. Students can access their modules anytime, or search for additional resources online.

The of modules is also cost-efficient because parents and guardians can save a lot of transportation and accommodation. The only expense is in the printing of modules which are shouldered by schools.

These are only some of the key advantages of modular distance learning.
