Who’s Boring?

-

The main key to teaching any student is to get them to be actively engaged in the lesson, textbooks and worksheets have been a staple in classroom for decade, but they can be extremely boring.

Not only are the are boring but for the teacher as well.

Give student choice.

When student are given a choice, they fell like they have some kind of control over what they are learning. Try asking, students what they want to read, or giving them an option on how they want to go about learning atopic or completing a project. For example, Let say that student have to read a book for a lesson but it is a boring book.

Give them the option of watching the movie, or acting, out the book as well. If you are conducting a lesson, and you want students to complete a project about it, them give them a few options, it will make it more interesting if they decide how they will complete the task, versus having you tell them what to do.

Use real words example.

There is no better way to keep students engaged them to relate the lesson to something they already know.

If you are teaching fifth grades, a social study lesson then try having students create a son by changing the lyrics of a popular artist to correlate with what they are learning. Use technology, popular celebrities, video games, musicians, or what ever else that is currently relevant to children to keep them interested. If you are teaching students about Rosa Parks. Then find the real word example to compare her journey to.

Use object.

Buy objects, I mean anything form a tiny manipulative like a coin, to magazine or an everyday item like a paper towel roller piece of fruit. Here are few examples of how you can use objects to increase students engagement and take your lesson less boring.

Lesson-students are learning the basic about measurements instead of having them compete a boring worksheet, Have them measure anything and everything that it is in the classroom.

Lesson-students are learning a grammar lesson where they have to identify the parts of speech, give a student a news paper, or a magazine and have them pull sentences from that.

Lesson- students ar learning about atoms and acids, have them bring in an object like a lemon an conduct a science experiment with objects that they around every day.
