The Different Elements that Make-up a Module
Leoneth D. Viray
Since the school year started late this year, modules have been introduced to both teachers and students. This kind of learning style is relatively new to Philippine education because it has not been utilized before.
But since the ongoing pandemic has forced us to stay at home, modular distance learning became one of the best options to continue the studies of our students.
Various studies online define modules as a unit, chapter, topic, or segment of instruction. A week is a common module length, but it can be shorter or longer depending on the content.
A module is crucial in online learning environments because it provides an aid in the presentation and application of the online teaching and learning process. What are the elements that make-up a module?
Studies online show that, in general, a module includes an introduction to the material’s objectives, purpose, and context. After the introduction part, a module presents activities that provide ways for students to engage with each other in discussion and with the information and concepts.
A module also provides opportunities to practice, apply, analyze or synthesize new information which may include practice exercises, labs, or case studies.
Another key element of a module is the teacher’s feedback to students regarding their learning and accomplishment of the module objectives.
Some modules also provide additional resources for students to extend their learning through enriching activities and evaluation.
Knowing the key elements that make-up a module allows both teachers and students to properly adjust to the requirements of this particular teaching and learning style.
