The Digital Shift
Lea M. David
The 21st century is known to be the digital era with the advent of super computers and fast internet connection. These advancements in technology have also impacted the education sector.
Especially now that we are experiencing a pandemic, gone are the days of blackboards and chalks, and physical classrooms. Because lessons are now conducted remotely, online, through digital learning.
Digital learning makes use of information technology to impart knowledge to the students.
But, is it really worth it to shift to digital learning?
Digital learning is considered a blessing to both teachers and students. First and foremost, both parties could stay at the comfort of their homes, safe from the possibility of having physical contact with virus-infected individuals.
Moreover, parents who usually guide their children at home and help them in their studies and homework, can easily consult the internet and online tutorials anytime in order to guide their kids in a better way.
As for teachers, digital learning meant the reduction and elimination of the burdensome paperwork, which was part of the traditional system.
Digital learning has also provided a strong platform for better communication between the teachers and the students.
Nowadays, conducting a live chat with students has become easier through many free applications like Facebook Messenger or Zoom.
Moreover, communication between teachers and students can be made even more enhancing with the help of social media platforms, blogs, and other discussion forums.
With all these advantages, digital learning proves its worth to the education system.
