Role of parents in the Value Formation of pupils

Godfrey B. Balacio

-

If we are to look the value of our children today, they have gone down very low. The different value formation training launched by the Department of Education to teachers many years ago seems useless. Character Education Taught a s a subject and also integrated in all subject area did not show any development on the parts of the children. The effort of the teachers in moulding these children=n seemed to be futile.

Every morning during flag ceremony, character education id always parts of the message of the school administrator to start their day. Message to guide the students in their manners of the whole day. They have employed different methods and strategies strenghthen the attitude of the school children.

What could be the reason why the value of student degrading? Who is to be blamed for the very embarrassing attitude of students. Is it the teachers or the parents?

Parents are the first teachers of the child. Whatever values form at the home will be brought out by the child in a larger group. These values could affect the peers. What the child values is exemplified by his parents. Parents must then be careful in initiating attitudes since children are good imitators. Parents must be credible in imposing discipline to children. At home they should guard the television program for the child. They should know who the child goes with. His hobbies are to be monitored also.

Parents are teachers are partners n moulding the character of the child. Each of them should exert effort in directing the child. Each one has a role to play in the guidance of the child so that he will be properly directed and become upright citizen of the future.
