Always a Step Ahead

Whoever thought that being an educator means having perfected the skill of teaching got it all wrong. Honestly, teachers are so much like little kids – everyday we try to improve a variety of skills by comprehensive studies, but mainly by trial and error. Some say that people are either born teachers or not, but I see it not as a talent but a skill that one can acquire so I believe that we can all be educators if we want to be. Regardless of how we become teachers, the most important thing is we deliver our message clearly to our students, and in doing so, we have to keep in mind that there as aspects in our profession that go beyond how well we know the subject we teach.

The students determine the success or failure of the lesson – therefore, a teacher must come prepared before entering the classroom. The students are the most important feature of your lesson and you need to take various things into consideration: gender ratio, their goals, and even learning expectations. It cannot be denied that today’s youth have set higher assumptions of their teacher’s expertise in the subject, but this does not serve as a problem to us. It even challenges us to never cease to improve ourselves, and our craft. The advancement in technology has also posed an experiment for us to try and analyze as well. Others may not know this, but teachers have to be as updated as their students are when it comes to new means of gathering information, otherwise we’ll be left behind and they might just be leading the data race in more ways than one. We need to learn things, acquire new sets of skills, and continuously improve our craft so that we can be effective educator s.

Whoever thought that being an educator means having perfected the skill of teaching got it all wrong. Like our students, we continue learning and growing every single day. We are focused on moulding the beholders of the future into being productive members of the society who accept the challenge of a changing world. As teachers, we do our homework, reviews and researches too. We continuously strive to always be a step ahead of our students – because at the end of the day, we can only deliver what we have, share what we can, and teach what we know. We cannot be overtaken by our students, otherwise they’ll lose interest in attending our classes.
