Why Take The Time To Stimulate Student Critical Thinking In Mathematics
Maricel D. Yumul
Critical thinking skills should be part of the curriculum for students, and schools should be responsible for creating and testing critical thinking skills in the course of teaching and learning. In school or the sense of daily life, critical thinking skills can allow students to think critically and address problems. In the context of mathematics education nationwide, attempts to improve the critical reasoning ability of mathematics have been the key agenda.
Much of the teaching and learning process that takes place is a teaching approach that is based on the memorization of the information that causes students to think less objectively. Therefore, the lack of the value of teaching and acquiring thought skills influences the capacity of students to think. This adds to the poor reasoning ability of students.
The most fundamental principle of analytical thinking is the potential for understanding, analysis, assessment, reasoning, description, and self-regulation. Critical thinking skills are very important in mathematics learning, and these skills will enhance the standard of mathematics learning in a greater and more practical manner, and so there should be a comprehensive way to build these skills through mathematics learning at school.
The purpose of learning thinking skills is to provide a standard of thought in which the quality of thinking is expected not just at school, but also outside of school. Critical thinking skills contribute to students' ability to grasp the mechanism of thinking while learning the contents of the subject. Therefore, students should not only recognize the content of the lesson but also the process of mathematical thinking.
Teachers should not inherently dominate and control the intended curriculum but should allow students to play an active role and show successful multilateral cooperation between teacher and student or student. Efforts should be made continuously, using different approaches and effective learning methods, to improve critical thinking skills, especially at a time of modular distance learning. Mathematics instruction not only teaches mathematical content but also strengthens the logical thinking skills of students that are necessary for students to solve different problems in school or social activities.--oOo-
