HWith the ongoing pandemic, the need for open spaces have greatly incr eased .

The Orchard: A Community Place in the City of San Fernando offers just that.

"The design of the building maximizes sun and air, both the enemy of any virus," Jonathan Lazatin, officer in charge and shareholder at The Orchard Community Place, said.

The Orchard Community Place project started three years ago.

"When we started this project three years ago, we never knew we would be faced with a pandemic that would isolate everyone. But, the Chinese have a saying: 'Crisis is defined as opportunity.' We believe that the design of The Orchard Community Place is exactly what is needed today," Lazatin shared.

Orchard: Community Place got its name from the orchard created by the first occupants of the area.

"We wanted to maintain that sense of openness, with the rolling gardens and trees all around," Lazatin shared.

But, all this greeneryis not just for show on the outside, it is also “Green Within," becausethe Orchard is equipped with a state-ofthe-art water recycling system that would process waste water so it could be used to water all the greenery you see here today.

"It is also designed to accommodate up to 3000 persons a day. That’s a lot of flushes," Lazatin shared.

On December 5, Orchard: A Community Place launched its Community

Christmas Market featuring local eats and things from small businesses in the city.

The Christmas Market will run from three weekends of December 5-6, 11-13, and 19-20 from 11AM - 6PM.

The launching of the Christmas market was led by Lazatin and his fellow shareholders JP Lazatin and Miguel Lazatin Magat.

Stalls including Essel Bakery, Anna Baker, Prime Cut Meat and Deli, Apung Susa's Food Products, and Susie's Cuisine among others offer local favorite dishes during the Christmas Market run.

Shoppers can also enjoy chicken wings, ribs, steaks and salads from U-Rack, the first tenant at Orchard: A Community Place.

"The Orchard presents opportunities for people to unwind, socialize, and be creative," Lazatin said.

Another feature of the Or char d's d esi gn isCreative Spaces.

According to Lazatin, these are the spaces "where people can sing, perform, and put down their cellphones and look up to see the beauty of nature."

Lazatin said all these developments are part of the first phase.

"Next year the first drive-through drugstore north of Manila will be established here, eliminating the need for social contact," he added.

Soon to open at Orchard: A Community Place are Fresh Options, Gustav, and Samgyup sa Bahay.

The Orchard: A Community Place is located along MacArthur Highway in Barangay Telabastagan, beside Sacred Heart Parish.
