AIMING QUALITY EDUCATION AMIDST PANDEMIC
Noemi Charlyn C. Butiu
When Coronavirus reached the country, it forced to change the setup of all the government sectors particularly in education. Most of the people thought that education will be stopped at least a year or a couple of years due to the danger brought about by the virus. When the DepEd secretary announced the opening of the classes and the change of learning modality, it received different reactions from the people especially the concern parents. At first, resistance on the opening of classes was immoderate that other parents suggesting a suspension of classes the whole year. But the government insisted and pursued the opening of classes last October.
The chosen learning modality is modular-based approach, seemingly impossible to achieve quality education because the students will work independently if their family members will not assist them. This situation is never a hindrance in the Division of City of San Fernando, Pampanga for they use different learning modalities like modular approach, TV-Based and Radio-Based Instruction. These ideas were initiated by the hardworking Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Imelda P. Macaspac.
The teachers of the City Division of San Fernando, gladly participated on the advocacy of the superintendent which is aiming quality education amidst pandemic. Some teachers participated on the Fernandino Teens TV like yours truly, others participated Kwentong Aral sa Radyo which is a Radio-based learning modality. The students in the City Division can learn different learning competencies in the most accessible means in the locality. This advocacy of the superintendent achieved commendable reactions in the country and even praised by the Deped secretary herself.
It is now in the hands of learners and parents how they will cherish and adapt the efforts made by the teaching and non-teaching personnel of the City Division headed by the superintendent and the local officials of the city.
