The Passion and Dedication of Teachers
Mary Catherine P. Lopez
They say teaching is one of the most noble professions in the world. As a teacher, I completely agree since I am witness to how many fellow teachers have changed the lives of many students. It is with the guidance of teachers that numerous students succeeded in their lives and played important roles in the society. This alone is an achievement to us teachers.
But, unbeknownst to many, behind every teacher is a mountain of challenges that we have conquered and continue to conquer every day.
How do we really manage to keep our passion alive?
Firstly, we teachers to focus on our passion itself and what schools need. That means if there are some materials or activities we need for a specific discussion, we prepare or do them in order for our students to appreciate the lesson. It’s not really easy especially if that requires financial expense, but it would all be worth it.
Secondly, professional development is always priority. Once in a while, we have to rekindle our passion for education away from school buildings that includes spending time with our family, friends and all those people who inspire us to continue this profession. W e can also join seminars, lectures and even camps to learn new things about our profession.
Lastly, we take a breather and relax. It’s always better to do things one step at a time because taking on new experiences and opportunities should be energizing, not exhausting. If a commitment becomes overwhelming, we have to find a way to step back or find help from our co-teachers, so we can continue with what we do.
