Not just an e-commerce platform

REMEMBER 12.12? Yes, that super sale shopping that Lazada and Shopee had advertised and came out with triumphantly, just recently.

Well, it’s good to know that Shopee is not just a shopping platform, but is also helping the Department of Education in its bid to continue learning in rural areas, despite challenges posed by the pandemic.

The leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan will be donating 708 transistor radios to the DepEd to help students in rural areas.

This is part of the agency’s Last Mile Schools program, where public educational institutions in geographically isolated and conflict-affected areas (GIDCA) are usually without access to electricity and reliable internet connection.

With the help of these transistor radios, students can tune in to DepEd’s education broadcasts especially now that the country is still under some quarantine restrictions.

According to Shopee, it is humbled to be a part of this meaningful initiative with DepEd, where they can work to improve the lives of students in Last Mile Schools. The company is sincerely hoping that the donation of these transistor radios will help children in rural areas continue learning safely from their homes.

Shopee said this initiative is part of its efforts to advocate for Filipino children’s welfare through education, and is part of Shopee’s bigger vision of leveraging the digital ecosystem to provide opportunities for the country’s future generation.
