DepEd to select pilot schools for F2F classes on Dec. 28
Archie Anusencion Basilio
The Department of Education (DepEd) is set to select schools included in the pilot implementation or dry run of face-to-face classes (F2F) in areas with low risk of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) by Dec. 28, according to news reports.
Malacañang said President Duterte approved the pilot implementation because blended and distance learning is “far from ideal” especially in areas with little or no access to computers and the internet.
The Palace is trying to see if we can live with the virus and if F2F learning can be done especially in areas with no Covid-19.
By Dec. 14 to 18, 2020, regional directors will submit nominated schools for pilot implementation or dry-run, and by Dec. 28, pilot schools will be selected from among the nominated schools.
By Jan. 4 to 8, 2021, there will be orientation, mobilization, and readiness confirmation of selected pilot schools, while Jan. 11 to 23, 2021 will be the implementation of pilot activities, including joint monitoring by DepEd and the Covid-19 National Task Force.
Submission of regional reports on the pilot implementation; evaluation for the final recommendation to the President will be done by Jan. 25 to 29, 2021.
The government, meanwhile, has reminded the public that F2F classes will not be compulsory. Submission of a parent's permit for the student to participate in face-to-face classes will be required.
This will only be a pilot test and will only run for one month, according to the national government. Nobody will be forced, and there should be approval from parents. Besides this, the local government unit should also approve. If the LGU rejects it, there won’t force face-to-face classes.
