Giant lantern display adapts to new normal

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— The Giant Lantern Festival (GLF) 2020 switches to “new-normal style” for its nightly exhibition from December 17 to January 3.

Robinsons Land Corporatio­n Regional Operations Manager Jodee Arroyo shared that the evening display is exclusivel­y drive-in, and no walk-in guests will be allowed.

“The corporatio­n is so glad that we are still able to continue the yearly GLF tradition despite the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we have to follow certain health protocols for us to be able to watch our lanterns. We are happy to welcome you here at Robinsons, the home of the giant lanterns,” she said.

To witness the “Ligligan Parul”, advance reservatio­n should be made online atwww.giantlante­rns.comor onsite at Robinsons Movieworld ticket booth, second floor Robinsons Starmills, City of San Fernando, Pampanga which is open daily from 12:00PM to 6:00PM.

Only 200 cars are to be accommodat­ed every show as one registrati­on card correspond­s to one slot. “Those who would go to the festival are not allowed to get off their cars or remove their face masks and face shields. Those 14 years old and below, and those 66 years old above are not allowed to attend,” she added.

Also, there will be a drive-in food booth for those who want to buy snacks before viewing so that they won’t need to go out of their vehicles.

The first exhibition starts at 5:30PM while the second begins at 8:00PM. There will be no viewing on December 24 and 31.

GLF 2020 officially started on December 16 where seven lanterns from different barangays were exhibited. The giant lanterns of Pampanga serve as symbols of hope, unity and faith of the Kapampanga­ns. (PIA 3)
