DTI provides livelihood packages to 1.6K MSMEs in Central Luzon

-

DTI-3 Director Judith P. Angeles said on Thursday the move is to help the MSMEs bounce back following the impact of the community quarantine restrictions brought by the pandemic.

“Despite the pandemic, the agency pressed on to distribute the livelihood kits to beneficiaries in the region to help them start or restart their business in their respective areas,” Angeles said in a statement.

As of November 30, 2020, she said that a total of 1,013 livelihood starter kits amounting to P7.97 million were given to beneficiaries from the region under the DTI’s Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa (PPG) program.

The PPG beneficiaries include victims of fire incidents, tornadoes, and health disasters such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

Out of the total figures, there are 79 beneficiaries in Aurora, 180 in Bataan, 357 in Bulacan, 189 in Nueva Ecija, 98 in Pampanga, 57 in Tarlac, and 53 in Zambales.

On the other hand, 635 livelihood starter kits were distributed by the DTI provincial offices in Central Luzon under the Livelihood Seeding Program – Negosyo sa Barangay (LSP-NSB), a project to bring the services of government down to the barangay level.

Angeles said the LSP-NSB program allows a wider reach of business development assistance by bringing government services closer to the people through partnerships between relevant local government units and DTI officials.

This was conducted in partnership with other government agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology, Department of Labor and Employment, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and the local government units where many of the DTI’s Negosyo Centers are based.

The LSP-NSB program is enrolled as a key program funded under the Bayanihan to Heal Act As One Act.

Aside from the kits, the DTI official said the beneficiaries were required to attend entrepreneurship development seminars conducted by the agency to ensure that they have a good preparation for entering or enhancing their respective businesses. ( PN A)
