AHEAD OF THE FUTURE
Mary Grace A. Tabora
Have you heard it? There’s a buzz on the supposed to be implemented DepED policy on 2021 about the promotion of teachers. According to DepED this is the answer of the department to teachers’ clamor on bridging the salary gap of Teacher III to Master Teacher I. And so Secretary Briones pointed on the forthcoming policy “If you do well, you will go up. But be reminded that relative to preferment comes responsibilities.”
Why so? Since the policy suggests that teachers will no longer wait for natural vacancies of positions, instead be promoted according to reclassification or based on their performance and attainment of set of competencies. This means that teachers will not compete with other teachers anymore but instead must improve themselves continuously. Also, teachers will have a career path from Teacher I to Teacher VII (Salary Grade 11 to 17) and Master Teacher I to Master Teacher V (Salary Grade 18 to 22), more so there will be 1 Master Teacher for every 3 teachers, on the other hand when Master Teacher position is vacated it will be scrap and be back to Teacher I item. Now, what is next for the Head Teachers, Assistant Principals and Principals? Head Teachers will be reclassified to Teacher IV-VI and be given teaching loads while Assistant Principal and Principal I-IV position will remain.
Forthwith, what should a teacher do to be promoted? Just simply carry-on his/her mandate dedicatedly. Such as designing innovations, taking professional studies and trainings plus producing outputs for each, and demonstrating quality in teaching and learning process.
The indicated is the FUTURE OF TEACHERS, it is around the corner and the call is for you is to be AHEAD OF THE FUTURE.
