THE COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the quality of education system in every part of the globe. The main concern here in the country is the amount and quality of parental involvement, as well as access to the internet and technology.

That is why the Department of Education, with the help of the national government and other stakeholders, is doing everything it can to address these challenges and make the necessary improvements.

While continuing quality education is important, so is the mental and physical wellbeing of students and parents, amid the health crisis.

Educators worldwide are also offering innovative solutions to challenges raised by COVID-19, to help children learn in these difficult times. The goal is to provide solutions to all problems and challenges around education during this crisis.

Because everything happened so fast, it is understandable that the country has not come up with a holistic solution immediately. Every country has come up with solutions, and some have combined these different approaches to create a more impactful education for students around the world.

It is our hope that we can continue to provide relevant and engaging resources for students, teachers and parents here in the country. It is inspiring that some communities are coming together to come up with solutions, while the government is trying to connect students and teachers virtually using platforms like DepEd Commons.

It is a good thing that everyone is adapting quickly to meet the needs of the learners, especially in this uncertain time. We should grab whatever opportunities and challenges this pandemic throws at us, for the improvement of the education system and for the professional development of teachers.

There is a need to form a stronger connection with parents and students during this time, while untrained teachers should have access to digital learning resources.

The best thing we can do at this time is to inspire students and teachers to learn better and teach better. Schools, too, should embrace more innovative learning environments.
