Education is a continuous process. It does not stop. But the COVID-19 outbreak greatly affected the education system. Despite of this, the Department of Education did its best to continue delivering basic education to all. One of which is the modular distance learning. This was comprehensively studied and was done through a survey using the Learners’ Enrolment Survey Form ( LESF ) where parents/guardians choose the modality suited or applicable for their children. Since connectivity of internet is the common problem of most parents, many chose the modular distance learning as the modality preferred.

Modular learning is a form of distance learning that uses self learning modules ( SLM ) based on the most essential learning competencies ( MELCS ) provided by Dep Ed. The modules include section on motivation and assessment that serve as a complete guide of both teachers and learners’ desired competencies. The self learning modules are already learning packages which contain pre-test, discussion of the lesson followed by series of evaluation/ assessment. These modules are distributed to learners following their modular distance learning schedule. Teachers will guide the learners on what subjects and modules they have to study given the schedule for a week. Moreso, the MDL is being monitored by their teachers.

The effectiveness of modular distance learning is not the same as to face to face interaction. Actual discussion is more essential to learners especially for Kinder to Grade III. Reading and writing are necessary for these stages and that the modules cannot guarantee the quality in building the skills. Thus, parents/guardians play an utmost iimportant role in making this endeavor a fruitful one. Their support and guidance to their children will inspire them to study hard and be motivated to work for their best. It is in this time of pandemic, under the new normal, the joint effort of the school personnel, parents and stakeholders count much in order for the learners to acquire the quality education they deserve.
