The Positive Effects of Playing Sports at School
Amabelle Montemayor Lapira
Playing sports play an important role in young students’ lives. Students who are active in school sports are fitter, have healthier body weights and are more confident.
Some of the positive skills of playing sports at school include improved social skills, better health, and lower risk of negative influences.
Improved social skills. Participation in school sports provides a sense of belonging and being part of a team or group. Interacting with peers in a friendly manner, learning the interest of teammates and practicing mutual respect and cooperation help students become sociable and outgoing as they grow.
Better health. The use of smartphones and computer devices have changed many students’ lifestyles. Our young learners have become sedentary and obese. Playing sports in school helps avoid these conditions. Participation in school sports supports the healthy growth of the heart, lungs, muscles and bones. It also improves agility, coordination and balance. Exercise also helps reduce stress levels, anxiety and behavioral problems. Regular physical activity helps you relax better and reduces muscular tension.
Avoiding negative influences. W hen students spend their free time playing sports, it is less likely that they will engage in negative vices such as smoking, drinking, or worse, using illegal drugs. Playing sports take up students’ free time in a good way. So, instead of doing activities that can harm their health and welfare, students spend their free time wisely by playing sports.
These are some of the positive effects of playing sports at school.
