Netiquette and the Intricacies of Social Media

In today's day and age that we are currently living in a time that is immensely different from, even more so the past decades. The Web was born in 1989 to meet the demand for automated info sharing between schools and universities according to home.cern. Little did people know that the network built by Tim Berners-Lee will spark the digital revolution that will change the course of history.

As teachers in this time of pandemic, we devised new strategies to deliver quality education to our students. In that process, we took advantage of social media platforms in order to maximize the development of our learners. Students tend to cross the boundary of the student-teacher relationship by adding us on facebook which made me realize that we need to have a guide or a reminder to check ourselves whenever using the internet.

Netiquette refers to the standards of conduct and etiquette when using digital platforms and others. My first rule is that friend request should only be sent to people who you know personally. We must use other platforms like LinkedIn whenever trying to connect to professional peers and colleagues. Secondly, don't post during school hours. As teachers, it is our duty to do papers works and preparing lessons to teach. This sends an unpleasant message to the public and school stakeholders. My last point to give credit where credit is due. Plagiarism is rampant in todays time. In one click you can copy someones work or pictures. As teachers we must always keep in mind to credit our sources.

Let me say the cliche´ but very impactful quote, think before you click!
