Planning Ahead: Its Importance in School Management

A plan acts as a blueprint before accomplishing all the activities and programs in the school. Without a plan, things might turn out chaotic. When plans are properly laid out among the members of the school community, they can prepare as to how they will contribute and respond to the challenges.

Planning directs the people in the school community to anticipate all the hurdles as they progress. That is the reason why most of us have Plans A-Z. We could not expect that the first plan will turn out the way we want it to be. Furthermore, a plan boosts efficiency. When tasks are not scrambled, there is a high probability that they will be finished on, or even ahead of time.

Starting from the higher-ups, the Division Superintendent for example, plans are laid out among the school principals. The school principals then relay these memoranda, policies, and information among the teachers and other school personnel. To realize the general objectives of the division, the school plans out the specific tasks that it needs to accomplish.

The knowledge of the school head in educational planning is manifested through his or her leadership actions. The teachers, also educational planners in the classroom level, act upon these plans in more detailed tasks. In any endeavor that the school does, planning is the main ingredient. As the aphorism says, “Always begin with an end in mind.”

Nothing is permanent in this world except change. We could anticipate things, but we could not really foresee what will exactly happen. We need to rewrite plans each year because things change each year. This is related to what is happening to the Philippine educational system right now. We never expected that a serious outbreak will hit the globe. Everything changed at the drop of a hat. All the plans prepared for this academic year were changed because of the different needs of the learners and the community.

Some plans can be retained, others can be modified. If these plans worked out well during the previous year, it is all right to do them again. But if they did not work properly, there must be modifications made.
