Online teaching is relatively new to us. Since time immemorial, education in our country has been delivered face-to-face, within the four walls of a classroom. The ongoing pandemic has forced the education sector in the country to shift to digital learning. The digital world has become the new normal platform of teaching. Teachers and students get to physically interact with each other every lesson. But, since COVID19 happened, that time seems like a long time ago.To ensure the safety of teachers and our students, we all had to stay at home. But, educating our young ones should not be hindered by this pandemic. Thus, lessons had resume, amidst the distance, at the comfort of each others’ homes. However, conducting online lessons has it challenges including the lack of motivation of online learners. It is undeniable that students can get easily distracted and lose their motivation to study since they are comfortable at home. This poses a huge challenge to teachers. But, there are some ways to somehow address this issue. To ensure students’ motivation to learn, we have to set clear goals with our lessons. One way to achieve this to set a regular schedule including a deadline when students need to finish their assigned tasks. This way, students would keep themselves focused on the tasks at hand. There are many other challenges to the new normal way of learning. I will be discussing the other challenges in my next articles.
