-

MA. CECILIA M. MARIN

As they say, change is inevitable. One of the fastest changing pace setter of our generation of learners today is technology. The youth are very much hooked with these technological changes. On the other hand, teachers are struggling to keep their learners' interests in school. But the new curriculum had reconstructed the educational system. The subjects are now designed to make technology a support to delivering quality education. Mathematics was before one of the hardest subject to teach because it requires a series of difficult computations. Gone were those days. The modern math classroom now requires both teachers and students to have regular access to technologies that support and advance mathematical sense making, reasoning, problem solving, and communication. Math teachers who are considered effective nowadays are those who optimize the potential of technology in order to develop their students' understanding. 21st century Math teachers make use of technologies to stimulate their students' interests, and at the same time increase their proficiency in mathematics. It is expected from a modern math teacher to use technology strategically to be able to provide greater access to mathematics for all students.

As changes occur in the classroom setting, professional development programs for teachers are now designed such that they are continually updated on different technological advances that is applied in the classroom to support learning. These works include the development of math lessons that take advantage of technology-rich environments and how digital tools may be used in daily classroom instruction. Professional programs for teachers are now instilling an appreciation for the power of technology and its potential impact on students' understanding and use of mathematics. Teachers are trained to use these tools to enrich students' experiences at the same time increase mathematical knowledge and skills.
