Education amidst Pandemic

Education sector in the Philippines has been facing a lot of problems due to the pandemic that shut down the whole world from its progress. A lot of parents are against in the opening of classes for the school year 2020-2021 due to the demands of education to their child. Gadgets like smartphones, laptop, desktop and even internet connection is now a must. These are said to be needed to catch up to the demand of the “new normal” education.

Only few among the many families can afford these things. Only those who have the money and those who are still working amidst the pandemic we are facing until this very moment can comply to the needed demand of this education system we are implementing. As an answer by the Department of Education for students who cannot afford such demands, modules were crafted during the summer of this year.

Distance Learning Modules (DLMs) were crafted by some chosen authors of the Department of Education to produce or write modules for Kinder to Senior High School. These modules are self-taught, and activities are designed for the retention and understanding of every student who will use and receive this. These modules will be for free. They are somehow like worktexts which consist of text for the discussion and worksheets for the activities. The modules will be provided by the Department of Education and it is now up to the student on how he/she will grasp and put in mind the information in the modules. However, in times of confusion and questions, students or parents may seek help to the teachers via text, call, or chat.

Indeed, buying gadgets and internet connection is not the hindrance to not continue the school year 2020-2021 for the DepEd provided the needed materials asked by the curriculum to feed the hungry minds of every learner. This pandemic will not make the teachers, learners, and the Department of Education to stop pursuing quality education.
