-

Edrose P. Quizon

Technology and Livelihood Education, being part of the basic education curriculum of the Philippines, takes the limelight in shaping the minds of young learners in embracing all bodies of knowledge related to livelihood and home economics and even the world we live in. These areas of learning are covered by TLE. This subject leads us to become more cognizant of the things around us. In addition, the subject may lead us in learning life skills which will eventually benefit the learners.

Through the varied ways of teaching the subject, TLE teachers let the students get out of their comfort zones and eventually venture on the realm of “knowing the world” and even letting those strands of learning change their lives ultimately and be able to meet global demands. The world is filled now with demands of achieving better workforce. Thus, this starts in school by providing learners with skills that might aid them in meeting these demands eventually.

In the Philippine educative setting, the K-12 program even intensified the teaching of TLE even in the Senior High School program. Specializations under the Technical Vocational and Livelihood strand in SHS allow students to be more globally competitive by the acquisition of life skills that make them more employable in the future.

Technology and livelihood education is vital to becoming a productive member of the modern workforce. Choosing a career path, and then learning the technology related to that field or industry, can be an excellent way to improve the chances of succeeding in a career endeavor. Technology and Livelihood Education is widely available thru basic education curriculum. Still, students will typically attend vocational school, technical colleges and universities to learn technology and livelihood courses.

If taught properly, the TLE subject makes students inspired and interested. TLE teachers like us would eventually instill to students a sense of importance and responsibility about learning and eventually make them meet global works. This enables students to develop understanding and form questions both on the knowledge they already have and the insight they wish to gain in the future.

As we face a fast-changing world, let us always equip our students with skills and competencies that will eventually make them global professionals and workers who are highly competitive in the future.

The challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic in the education sector cannot be overlooked. It has devastatingly shown how fragile our education system has been especially in the curriculum implementation.

With the adoption of the Learning Continuity Plan of the Department wherein most of the schools implemented the blended learning strategy in the form of printed modular distance learning approach which aims to cater even those who does not have internet connections. However, modular distance learning has been challenging to the teachers as well as the parents and the learners.

From the preparation, reproduction to distribution and retrieval of learning modules has been challenging for teachers. Coping up with the new normal has been mentally and emotionally challenging as well. Moreover, it’s hard for teachers to monitor the learners if learning had really taken place.

On the part of parents, their role in guiding their children to overcome the new approach and accomplishment of modules cannot be overlooked. Learning will take place in their home and they will somehow take the role of teachers. Some of them voices their concerns on how they will facilitate learning when they are working, or they do not have the academic capabilities to teach their children.

Lastly, the learners who are the reason for all our efforts have been struggling as well, consistency in the accomplishments of modules have been challenging, they were overwhelm with the gigantic amount of work to accomplish all the printed modules every quarter.

Despite all this, education must continue. It is not easy to adapt to new challenges in our life, however, we must embrace these challenges to succeed. We just need to support each other, we will overcome all of these if we will hold each other’s hand towards the attainment of our one goal, which is to provide quality education for all.

Take a look back for a bit to consider what your school vision truly is! It can be so easy to forget the aspirations and plans you had when you first started up your place at work.

Know that this is a team game. You don't have to plan everything-the leadership team would have a wealth of expertise and knowledge that will help you identify and implement your roadmap. New technologies are also likely to be a vital part of the delivery mechanism, so make sure everyone comes out on top in technology. When they are a supporter of the management team, they will have a good view of your strategic objectives and will be able to pick the right technologies to incorporate it successfully to help you accomplish those targets.

Delete the hurdles. If you want people to come on track, you need to make the trip as quick as possible, and that means avoiding barriers and obstacles whenever possible. One option to do this is to look at the current structures and processes. It's really common for schools of becoming "standardized" and fell into the pit. Technology is constantly going ahead and will offer numerous ways to simplify the procedures, reducing time for everyone involved. So if you want to make the best of the technologies you're using, make sure you spend time teaching your workforce the expertise they need to make the best of the situation.

The effectiveness of every goal and plan relies on the entire school population, so you'll need to ensure you include everyone. “Fearless" might sound like a strong term, but consider, you've been dreaming about your goal and plan. Many around you will take time to get your word as comfortable. This will be accomplished by guaranteeing that the goal is a core aspect of the school's engagement policy.
