WHILE education is the key to becoming productive citizens in our country, a lot has changed during the past year which have made learning difficult for students.

The present education system, brought about because of the COVID-19 pandemic, has encountered challenges in delivering basic education. First of this is the cancellation of face-to-face classes following the implementation of health and safety protocols set by the government.

This has prompted the Department of Education to implement distance learning delivery. All over the country, schools are adamant to continue delivering basic education to all.

The modalities implemented in every school include Online Learning, Modular Distance Learning, Blended Learning, Radio-Based Instruction, and TV-Based Instruction.

A survey was conducted to identify the best for of learning for every student. Most have preffered Modular Distance Learning (MDL).

The question is, how ready are we? The parents? Learners?

The shift is very challenging, especially on the part of the school personnel who have to deliver basic quality education. DepEd leaders are always finding avenues to solve the problems, capacitating teachers and school heads to become more effective in their field for the modular distance learning.

They also underwent trainings and seminars to be more equipped in delivering better education amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, there are certain issues, and the modules cannot guarantee building the fundamental skills needed by the students. While actual discussions are needed, there are restrictions on face-to-face contact.

But there is a way to cope: why not shoot videos aligned to the content of the specific module? These can be distributed via CD or flash drive and can be shown to kids as part of the teaching-learning process.

Parents and guardians actually play a vital role in their children’s learning. For the fruitful outcome of this endeavor, their support is needed to inspire kids to work hard and be motivated to study.
