School Infrastructures

Evelyn G. De Guzman

-

For the past few years since the year of implementation of free tertiary education, budget allocations have been slashed from the various departments of the government. The Department of Education, being one of the biggest departments, has not been spared from the cutting of approved budget. The budget on building infrastructures have been affected. Obviously, classroom shortage is at close sight. To support the pupils to the best possible action, school administrators have already made some strategies.

Alternative Classrooms. Covered court area and bleachers, wooden and metal tube built open classrooms, reusing of old classrooms and campus sheds are somehow used to be a new classroom in a way that it can hold a whole section.

Fully Maximizing Pupils in a Classroom. Exceeding to what a classroom can really hold, just to support them and provide a place to study, the number of pupils per room usually exceeds to 50.

Shifting Classes. Morning classes that starts at 6:00 AM and ends at 12:00 Noon, and afternoon classes that starts at 12:00 Noon and ends at 6:00 PM are the usual schedule for class shifting that can hold more pupils but allows less time of teaching.

In situations like this, there is no room for naggers. There is no much time to hear the complaints of other people. Our nation needs the cooperation of everybody. If anybody can donate a classroom, better donate. If we cannot afford, do not complain. We should always be grateful to the efforts of the government in striving for this land to be a better place to study in.
