Moving Towards the New Normal through Innovation

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought dramatic changes and challenges in the education sector. With the sudden shift in learning delivery approach, movement of classes due to global and local lockdowns, unavailability of learning resources and congested curriculum, the department needs to find ways on how to ensure the delivery of the curriculum without compromising its quality.

To overcome this changes and challenges, we must know how to adapt, adjust, and learn to innovate because those are the key in transitioning to the new normal. The problems that we encounter varies from other school or division. In line with this, we must learn how to localize the solutions to the problems of our own school. In doing so, we must specifically identify the problems through gap analysis and needs assessment and find ways to address these needs. When we hear the word innovation, we tend to link it with technology, but that is not the case especially in education, when we say innovation, it can be anything that will improve the delivery of learning or improve the system to deliver such learning. We can innovate on topics about teaching methods, intervention programs, child psychology and creating tools for assessment and monitoring. If we embrace the importance of innovation, and we strengthen our resiliency as teachers, we will overcome this difficult times.

Let us all remember that innovation is a vital component of education because, we, at the department molds the leader of tomorrow and those leaders will take charge of the innovation in the future, whether in the industry, organization, business, or education. Let us create an innovative world by being innovative teachers.
