Pampanga declared January 30, 1984, and every year thereafter as San Fernando Teachers Day.

“Itong unveiling of ‘Ding Bayaning Talaturu’ is a tribute to the teacher heroes because they stood by democracy, by protecting the ballots,” Pangilinan explained.

“And because of that example, we don’t forget the heroism and legacy of our teachers in the City of San Fernando. That is why even when [there is] pandemic, we are glad, naituloy itong paghahawi sa tabing ng mural natin dito sa new building ng DepEd San Fernando,” Pangilinan added.

Dr. Imelda Macaspac, San Fernando Schools Division Superintendent, believes the art piece will serve as an inspiration for the present generation of teachers.

“This mural will serve as a reminder that in our history there were teachers who were brave enough to stand for what was just and what was right and this will be their living legacy to all our present teachers,” she said.

Macaspac also thanked Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago for his continuous support to the teachers.

“The mayor has given a lot of support to the Department of Education especially this time of the pandemic. Nag provide ang ating mayor ng materials, equipment, and financial assistance ensuring that it is a stress-free education,” Macaspac said.

In an interview, Mayor Santiago also recognized today’s teacher heroes.

“Our present teachers are also heroes because even if we have a pandemic, they continue to mobilize and champion education in the City of San Fernando,” the mayor sai d.
