Universal Language: Key to Success

-

When I was a high school student, I dreamt of working and living abroad. Western culture influenced me a lot to study English as my second language. I started watching English movies and reading English novels. I also tried my best to converse in English with the people whom I was comfortable with. Because of my constant practice speaking in English, I excelled in my English class. This simple dream has motivated me to take up Bachelor of secondary Education Major in English. Without knowing it, English has honed me on who and what I am right now.

College days were the best days of my life. I savored and enjoyed every minute I was in my classes especially in major subjects. I didn’t find a single moment dull. In addition, I participated in some extra- curricular activities like speech choirs and impromptu speeches in which I brought home the bacon and in some I lost the battles. Despite of these loses, I was hunger for more learnings and I pushed myself to the limit.

College days had passed by so swiftly. I graduated confidently leaving my Alma Mater bringing all the knowledge and skills I had gained in four years. One morning, I found myself one of the jobseekers. Looking for a job, it was not difficult in my part. Luckily, I was immediately hired as a high school teacher. Without thinking twice, I accepted the offer.

I was hired in a private school where the pupils were all coming from a well-off families. Thus, majority of them were speaking English as their native language. I was glad to know that; still I could apply what I learned in college because English is the medium of instruction. After 3 years, I resigned believing that I should be in a public school. I pursued this belief because I wanted to move on with my dream: to become an efficient and dynamic English teacher in the government.

I believe that I’m always fortunate when it comes to job hunting. As if all the Greek gods and goddesses are watching over me and they bestowed their blessings to me. My talents and skills were honed and strengthened. I was sent to different seminars, trainings and workshops which are my greatest treasures besides my family of course. As they always say, man never stops from dreaming.

Looking back at my career path, English has played a vital role in my life and in my success. look at me now, I have a stable job and I use my knowledge and skills to earn for a living.

English speakers have a great edge compared to non- English speakers.
