Flipping the Classroom in the ‘New Normal’Set-up of Education

All students are comfortable with their school work, but not all students approach it as an enjoyable or especially stimulating aspect of their study. Sometimes, the end of the online class ends with a crazy rush to answer study questions before the day ends.

Flipped schooling is a style of education that flips the time when teachers typically give lessons and the time when learners traditionally do their homework. For this model, students attend video tutorials instead of their homework, and then, when they come to the online class, they spend the time doing tasks, taking quizzes, and engaging in small groups. In the meantime, the teacher is free to assist students who have t r oubl e.

By moving passive instructional resources to home environments, students are given the ability to study those materials in a time and place that suits well for their interests and to go back over relevant or confusing information as much as appropriate before they are well understood. This, in essence, allows students to ensure that they have all the basic knowledge they need to engage in engaging learning conversations and events that enable them to incorporate what they have learned.

Then, with in-class time reserved for collaborative dialogue and learning, teacher-guided exercises push students to bring the instructional materials into action. This class time can be devoted to group work, comprehension exercises, in-depth application of the subject matter, or simply free time for individual tasks, all with the additional advantage of having a teacher and fellow students nearby answer questions.

Although technical breakthroughs may have made the flipped classroom feasible, what made it famous is something much more fundamental: flipping improves the learning experience. Via student-led active learning, combined with peer-to-peer communication and individualized instruction, flipping a classroom allows educators to tailor each lesson to their students' individual needs like never before.
