How important is the subject Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (EsP)? Education for young individuals should be focused on making the students feel at home and love the world, apart from teaching them how to live an ethical life.

The Department of Education prescribes strategies on how to teach this subject. According to the agency, the main approaches to be used in teaching concepts are ethical decision making through the analysis of a problem or issue, social-emotional learning and academic or technical-vocational course planning.

Ethical decision means making a decision for one’s good and betterment. This process includes knowing the details of the situation, and carefully considering the moral values ??that are important in a situation.

It is also important to be sensitive to the moral aspects of situations in daily life and to be aware of the people or groups that will be affected by the decision.

Social-Emotional Learning, meanwhile, means being able to empathize with others and make responsible decisions. It also entails establishing good relationships with others and face challenges effectively. These skills are necessary for students to become successful in life.

Through EsP subject, young people will learn important points like becoming a better person, and the need to live according to what is good. It is also important to note that this subject teaches 21st century skills which are needed for learners to become productive members of society.

These include intellectual, emotional and behavioral skills that will enable him or her to develop his or her potential, make critical decisions, act effectively in society, live and work, and improve the quality of his life and his society.

EsP indeed plays a vital role in molding students so that they could contribute for the progress of the society.
