DSWD backs programs to cancel stereotypes

CITY

-

OF SAN FERNANDO – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Central Luzon promotes programs geared to allay stereotypes on men and women.

DSWD Family Development Session (FDS) Focal Person Ronsan Pelariza shared that #SuperJuan challenge is a call for stories of men who are doing their share in household chores which are stereotypically labelled as a woman’s job.

“We want to open the minds of men on this matter. We want them to see that these certain tasks are not only for girls or for women, but could also be performed by men. If a man does these tasks, this does not mean that he is ‘under’his wife, or he is not a real man. This just means he respects women and sees them as equal,” she emphasi zed.

A ‘Super Juan’believes that men and women are alike both in public and domestic life, and is not only a financial provider but also practices shared parenting responsibilities and finds time to take care of his child.

Raoul Littaua, InLife Sr. Executive Vice President and head of the Insurance Distribution Group, is a firm believer of gender equality. Stressing his notion that most women are “more firm when it comes to finances,” Littaua said, “most Filipino women are careful spenders who prioritize their families although little is usually allocated for savings.”

“There is no biological basis at all for the gender superiority of men but if there is such bias, it is cultural more than anything else. Therefore, I personally and wholeheartedly support efforts made by women organizations together with InLife in correcting that bias,” Littaua adds.

Moreover, this unit is envisioned to secure the financial future of Filipino women by offering women-specific solutions from InLife. Indeed, this is a life filled with purpose for the financial advisors. (PR)
