According to Gulcin Cosgun in 2021 on the topic “Establishing teacher presence in online teaching” Although face-to-face teaching depends on physical presence, teaching presence in online education depends on other factors such as course design, clear instructions and guidance, learner support, interaction and so on. Teacher presence in online courses begins before the course starts, continues during the delivery of the course and carries on even after the conclusion of the course (Noseworthy & Boswell, 2016).
The very first thing that need to be considered as Noseworthy and Boswell (2016) suggest, the facilitator of learning should consider assuring presence in the use of basic concepts which humanize the facilitator, assist in the tasks provided and give chances for interaction in the formulation of the supplementary materials. There are ways like: sharing a teacher introduction of the course and with an interesting cover. Also, motivating messages to welcome the learners and introduce the lesson and lastly can provide videos as springboard.
Secondly, varied approaches to make facilitators/ teachers presence felt. The following can be adopted: teachers can start with, use applications like games, interaction in social media, discussion in the e-mail which learners can participate. Moreover, giving clear instructions are very crucial. This way learners can fully accomplished activities given to them.
In addition, learners must be monitored as they do their activities followed by giving appropriate formative tests. These are possibilities of knowing if learners are performing well. Learners can be checked either online or offline mode. In using e-mail they can provide banner posts, sharing personal experiences and stories that suit to the competency needed for the lesson be achieved.
Time management is much given importance. Approximating when to start and how to allot time for each activities would attract them to focus. Feedbacks must also be considered.
