Instilling ‘Back To Basics’ Principle in Developing Growth Mindset During Pandemic
Mildred P. de la Fuente
In challenging times brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, learning fundamental concepts is essential for developing a well-equipped learner. Basic ideas can be the first to be introduced to children's minds to train them for more abstract concepts. Gaining a fundamental understanding of the lesson presented in Self-Learning Modules (SLMs) is concerned with gaining simple knowledge from which more sophisticated learning is based. Delivering basic knowledge during distance learning is a practical discipline for improving learners' thinking skills before learning concrete ones. It also assists learners in seeing the significance and usefulness of the material, no matter how basic.
Basic principles need more ingredients to gain sufficient skills and increase the difficulty of learning. This makes learning more available, encourages performance, and improves cognitive skill efficacy. When children engage in complex education after first learning the basics, they have a low learning investment. They become perplexed by the facts, which impedes the development of cognitive skills. It is vital to recall previously known information relevant to new learning while learning abstract concepts. It is explicitly mentioned that we must be acquainted with a basic understanding to apply it in studying factual knowledge.
Any learner's progress does not depend on complex knowledge but rather on being mindful of the primary learning components. This is important for the basis of education since the simple comes before the complicated. Unfortunately, there are times where learners refuse to understand that a previously acquired experience should be applied to a new work environment, and they automatically advance to a higher level of learning, reducing their capacity to improve on simple skills.
In a nutshell, learning fundamentals can instill a gradual recognition of the intent of teaching concepts and a desire to become more competitive in learning complex knowledge.
