CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Department of Tourism (DOT) is set to open new tourism circuits in Central Luzon.

In a virtual presser, DOT Regional Director Carolina Uy disclosed that they are planning a World War II Historical Tour which promotes an interregional tourism circuit by sea.

Endorsing travel by ferry, the target jumpoff point of the tour will be at the Manila Bay, and will have the Corregidor Island, Mount Samat, and Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar as its routes.

“One of the things we are pushing right now are the different tourism circuits. We are conducting inventory of new tourism destinations which could be included in the tourism circuits in the region,” she said.

In addition, DOT Central Luzon is set to introduce the Eco Historical Guide Bike Tours in Tarlac, and the Eco Cultural Historical Circuits in the provinces of Pampanga and Bulacan.

“We are developing wine tourism or ecotourism anchored with the thrust of Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat to promote farm tourism destinations as this is what our tourists are looking for right now such as outdoor activities and glamping,” Uy added.

Moreover, the new tourism circuits are in accordance with the travel surveys conducted by the agency in May and October 2020 with results showing that people prefer to travel in open air, open space, and well-ventilated ar eas.

The surveys suggest that the public wants to travel “for their sanity” amid the COVID-19 pandemi c.

DOT disclosed that 96 percent of the respondents answered that they want to see certified health and safety protocols being implemented in the tourist destinations.
