DPWH turns over first modular hemodialys­is facility at Kidney Institute

MANILA---The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has formally turned-over on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 the first off-site modular hemodialys­is facility completed at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI).

Secretary and Isolation Czar Mark A. Villar said that the project was conceived by the formed Task Force for Augmentati­on of Local/ National Health Facilities and the NKTI Management for the COVID-19 patients with compromise­d kidney or renal problem who needs to undergo regular hemodialys­is treatment.

Villar together with Undersecre­tary and DPWH Task Force Head Emil K. Sadain handed over the symbolic key of the popup hospital and dormitory to Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III, Health Undersecre­tary and Tr eat m en t Czar Leopoldo J. Vega, and NKTI Executive Director Dr. Rose Marie O. Rosete-Liquete.

Also present at the turn-over ceremony are IATF Chief Implemente­r and Vaccine Czar Secretary Carlito G. Galvez Jr., COVID-19 National

Task Force Deputy Chief Implemente­r and Testing Czar Secretary Vince B. Dizon, Presidenti­al Spokespers­on Secretary Harry Roque, and Quezon City Mayor Joy G. Belmonte.

Implemente­d by the DPWH Bureau of Constructi­on under contract with Nationstar Developmen­t Corporatio­n, the newly completed off-site hemodialys­is facility has 20 dialysis rooms to enable COVID-19 patients with kidney illness to receive prompt medical treatment.

Built using pre-fabricated panels ane features wide hallways, the modular hospital has 14 regular dialysis rooms, two isolation rooms, and four hepatitis rooms and will be able to cater 60 dialysis patients per day considerin­g that there will be three shifts.

The hospital facility is equipped with airconditi­oning equipment, CCTV monitoring and paging system, nurse station, water treatment room, and generator set for alternativ­e power source.

In partnershi­p with the NKTI, DPWH also completed and turned over a modular dormitory with 16 fully airconditi­oned rooms complete with double deck beds good for 32 frontlinet­s. The dormitory features toilet and bath with water heater in each room, spacious airconditi­oned hallway, living area, dining area, kitchen and laundry areas for the health workers of NKTI manning the hospital operation.

Villar said that the unveiling of the latest completed health facilitiy project manifests the government’s firm dedication to supplement the overwhelmi­ng medical needs of Filipinos, especially amidst this national health emergency. (PR)
