Teachers Need These Skills When Doing Lessons Online
Kathlene F. Almario
Teachers know that lessons conducted in the classrooms do not always translate directly to online lessons. For successful online lessons, teachers need more creativity, specialized training, knowledge of the curriculum, and lots of preparation.
Under the new normal system of education, teachers prepare by learning new technologies, developing lesson plans designed for remote instruction, and coming up with new ways to keep students engaged.
To be an effective teacher online, here are some skills educators can develop:
First, tech skills. Online teachers need to be tech savvy and comfortable with the latest online tools and technology. Using technology regularly in their day-to-day life can help teachers stay up to date with the latest innovations. Teachers may need to help students and parents learn new tools, especially at the beginning of the school year.
Second, creativity. In a digital learning environment, teachers who think outside of the box and prioritize creative thinking are well suited to help students succeed. Online learning creates opportunities for teachers to innovate and create engaging learning experiences for their students. It takes creativity, but every type of lesson or class, from science to social studies and physical education, can be taught online in an online curriculum.
Third, strong communication skills. Online learning may feel new to many students and parents, so building trust and community is key. Thus, building personal connections and a supportive learning environment through strong communication skills can ensure the efficiency of online learning.
Moreover, teachers also need to make themselves more accessible. Regular and consistent feedback becomes even more important in a virtual classroom.
These are just some skills that teachers can develop through time to teach online effectively.
