Mismatch between education and occupation in Pampanga –an observation
The author II Aureo D. Baking
Job mismatches result from the interaction between a combination of people’s needs, values, and expectations on the one hand, and the characteristics and rewards associated with their jobs on the other. A skill mismatch occurs when higher education system is ineffective in producing quality graduates that have the skills needed in the labor market. It also occurs when a graduate/ employee has a lower skill level than is expected function adequately in their job (Berlingiieri & Erdseik, 2012)
The probable mismatch was due to discrimination and the labor outcome( Susan Graham, 2013). The personal opinion of the writer was influence by the premise that Clark is the next BPO capital after Manila. Over the past few years, Philippines has already surpassed India as the number 1 destination for BPO companies.(dhrsolution.com.au) It states 10 reasons why Clark is the best out sourcing location. 1. Industry growth. Since Clark is managed by Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) it is expected that businesses will soon rise and open employment opportunities for the locals. 2. Fiber optic connections. Clrk has had access to Fiber Optics as early as 2015 and the bandwidth connection improves every year.3. The next “big thing” It comes with the plan of decongesting Manila. This means Clark is set to be the hottest hub for various businesses. 4. Strategic location. It is nestled in the heart of Pampanga accessible both to the investors and employees. 5. Sufficient support from the government. 6. Excellent infrastructure 7. Western culture 8. Expandable and very educated talent pool 9. Cost competitiveness and 10. Tax exemption.
Since the development of BPO in the province of Pampanga, vocational schools should offer courses related to the growing industry. Agents hired are from Manila. If the education system will supply the needed manpower of this industry they will no longer hire agents, quality assurance technical, team leaders outside Pampanga.
We all know that this Covid crisis paralyzed almost all businesses but not the BPO. It remain standing amidst this pandemic. The writer recommends to open a course related to call centers so that it will be a flourishing industry in the years to come.
