If face to face would not be possible next school year, I have thought to make online classes better and me version 2.0 teacher. Here are some ways of what I plan to do: (1) Build a personal relationship with students. Anxiety, anger, depression and disappointment are common among teenagers nowadays. With their lives in limbo, students have fear, financial problems and insecurity . So instead of introducing yourself make a simple survey on how to improve the online class, their interest and kind of help they would need. Then share a simple results of the survey. (2) Encourage the learners. Motivation is a key to an effective learning. If the students are motivated, they have determination, enthusiasm to finish their studies. High hopes energizes anyone. (3) Train the learners to focus on their studies . At first, the focus is very high then as the load of activities are given in academic subjects , focus in TLE subjects decreases. Make a short but enjoyable activity to make the focus at its maximum. (4) Create a small group. Peer teaching is an avenue for intervention and for group work. Creating a small group will eventually help the students to loosened up a bit and can open to her peers. (5) Have a meaningful discussion. Plan the lesson well and always connect the lesson to their real life situation. (6) Increase students engagement. Group coordinated work is still possible. (7) Identifying struggling students. The struggling students surely have problems. It can be financial problem, family problem or relationship problem. By knowing the problem, we can apply the correct solution. Each one has unique problem so treat each other not as a problem but an opportunity to extend a helping hand.
According to a Spanish proverb, “Experience is not always the kindest of teachers, but it is surely the best”. Indeed the SY 2020-2021 neither the best nor worst academic year. There are a lot of innovations learned but there are so far many more to learned.
